ASH AND GOLD
by Chloe Michell
A new and contemporary take on memorial jewellery exquisitely crafted using the ashes of a beloved individual or cherished pet; whether human or animal, each piece serves as a unique and wearable tribute
ASH AND GOLD
These timeless rings thoughtfully incorporate the ashes of your loved ones, creating a deeply personal keepsake.
Handmade in Cornwall by myself, using a traditional sand-casting method in my purpose-built workshop, I will carefully craft a beautiful and unique ring.
Designed for you to wear every day, it serves as a lasting way to keep a little piece of your cherished person close to you at all times.
The Process
Welcome to the serendipidous process of sand-casting
-

Handcarve
Each ring is hand carved by myself in wax to order. This ensures a perfect fit for you.
-

Sand cast
A mould is made from the carved ring, and your ashes are added before pouring in the molten metal.
-

Pour
Molten metal is poured into the mould; the alchemy of ash and gold to making your ring.
-

Finish
After casting, your ring is carefully finished into a beautiful piece for you to treasure forever.
How it works
-
Please choose your ring size, ring width, and profile shape carefully. I currently offer flat or D-shaped bands as standard options.
However, other shapes can be created since each ring is hand-carved in wax personally for you. Please contact me before placing your order and making payment to ensure that I can fulfill your specific requirements. This will help guarantee you receive the ring you desire.
-
I currently work exclusively in gold or silver for these rings. This includes sterling silver, as well as 9, 14, 18, or 22-carat yellow gold, and 9-carat white gold options.
If you have existing pieces, such as wedding bands or other gold items, I can incorporate your gold into these rings to create a meaningful and unique design.
Please see further down the page for detailed information about the order process and how we can work with your materials.
-
Each ring will be hand carved in wax for the casting process. I will base each ring on its size and width of the order. Please bare in mind these rings are hand made and can fluctuate very slightly in width. so if you order a 3mm band you may get a 3.2 mm.
-
Once you have selected your design and metal, placed your order, and completed payment, I will send you a package containing the following items: a ring sizer with instructions, a collection bag for ashes, a form to be completed, and a return label.
Please fill out the form and return it at your earliest convenience. Once received, the making process will commence.
-
As described above the process is as follows
1- Once i receive the order and the returned package i will hand-carve your ring for you.
2- The ring is then used to make a mould with delft clay sand. Your ashes are added at the end of this process with great care and placed with in the mould with delicacy and with detail to mind.
3- You ring is then cast, the metal is heated to molten and poured into your mould to create the alchemy that is Ash and Gold (or silver if that was your metal of choice)
4- your ring is then released from the mould and very carefully de-sprued and removal of all excess metal is completed. I then carefully hand file your ring to ensure the finish is exquisitely done and there is a good balance of texture and quality in finish
-
All items are legally required to be hallmarked. Once your piece has been finished it is carefully packaged and posted to the London Assay Office for hallmarking.
-
Once your order has been successfully completed. I will return it to you Royal mail special delivery.
Thank you for choosing Chloe Michell Jewellery.

FAQ
-
Yes you can. This is how it works.
Follow the steps on the order process and order the ring of choice, size and profile.
Pay in full for said ring.
On ordering there is a form to fill out at the check out. This will ask if you are sending me additional metals. If so i will add the necessary information, instructions and collection bag for the metal to be returned with the ashes.
Once received, i will check the metal for authenticity (so many fake hallmarks at the moment), weight etc. This is all carefully documented.
The weight of the metal provided will then be deducted from the price you have paid (at scrap prices on that day) and will be bank transferred back to your account. This will happen once hallmarking has been done and the assay office has confirmed the assay of the metal.
-
When you order, I will send a package to collect the ashes. It will include a ring sizer and easy instructions to use it. This helps me get your size right from the start and avoids any sizing issues.
-
